I find it sad that his life was so tortured.....his obvious need to change his appearance was just sad.
Hearing all his songs today and seeing the videos reminded me of just how damn good a songwriter, a lyricst, and a dancer he was....

He was one of the most extraordinarly gifted entertainers we have seen in the past 50 years.....but he had no childhood at all.....and it left him incredibly
scarred.

It's so sad. I watched a few of his old music vids on YouTube. Truly the King of Pop.

Was MJ a messed up person? Imo, without a doubt. But, I don't believe he was a sexual deviant who got off of the kids. Still inappropriate, yes - but more
about wanting to live in that Neverland state, always a child. I'm not sure how to explain it. He just had such a childlike way of talking - I caught some
of the clips of an Ed Bradley interview - eerie, to say the least.
I understand the drug issue since he has been to rehab before & given the nature of his life in the past few years/post criminal/legal issues, it isn't too hard to fathom he may have had problems w/ drugs. I can't say I feel angry, though I def. get what the other posters are saying. I wonder how it would be if he had some normalcy in his life - somewhere, anywhere, what difference that would have made. That's not to say I excuse his behavior based on his having a crappy childhood or whathave you, but I think it def. factors in. Regardless, he was indeed quite gifting in his arts and there are so many entertainers who wouldn't be what they are today if not for MJ. Overall, I think its more about the shock to me...then again, I kinda can't think of him having lived to an old age, if that makes any sense. |

OK, Karen, I can see some people saying he was better than Elvis but who says he was better than the Beatles? I will bitch-slap them! No one was better than
the Beatles. Maybe Dylan. No, not even Dylan. No one! NO ONE!!!!

I watched The Way You Make Me Feel, which was a video from 1987. It is a bit of a tribute to West Side Story and truly a Michael Jackson gift.
I cannot compare Michael Jackson to The Beatles because their music was so different. Comparing Michael to Madonna is easier - he had a lot of talent compared to her. |

I liked this
article on Jackson from the LA Times blogs. It's by Robert Hilburn who knew Michael from when he was a child.
My feelings: the Jackson I feel sorry for died a long time ago. He just became such a sad, strange and weird character with all the plastic surgery, crazy lifestyle and the whole "I sleep in the same bed as little boys!" stuff. (And let me say this: I believe he molested some boys. Take any other grown man and put him in the stories about MJ with boys and everyone would KNOW he was a child molester. Did he have "evil intent"? Probably not, because he was so screwed up himself.) I was never a big fan, but he had some amazing tunes and was a really good dancer obviously. Not that surprised at his death. He's looked sick for a looooong time. |

As far as comparisons go I think his performance of "Billie Jean" on the Motown 25 special was the single greatest live performance ever on
television. I remember watching it at the time with my mouth agape in astonishment. It's the loss of that MJ that makes me sad. Here'a link:

Huh? Endangering a child's life wasn't abuse?? Whatever....not enough to press charges but.......it was an awful thing to do...... says here when he died, he weighed only 125 pounds, definitely anorexic By LACHLAN CARTWRIGHT and TORI RICHARDS in Los Angeles and LUKAS I. He was the king of popping pills. Michael Jackson was taking a dangerous cocktail of powerful prescription drugs -- including several highly addictive narcotics -- in the months before his death from cardiac arrest, sources said yesterday. HE'S TREATED AS A GOD AT APOLLO ONGOING MICHAEL JACKSON COVERAGE In addition to the mind-bending painkiller Demerol that the "King of Pop" took three times a day, he also took 3 milligrams of the overwhelming narcotic Dilaudid as well as Vicodin daily. To add to the reality-altering effect of Demerol, Jackson also took a drug called Vistaril, which amplifies the narcotics' effect, experts say. Rounding out the staggering pharmacopia, Jackson scarfed down the muscle relaxant Soma, antidepressants Zoloft and Paxil, anti-anxiety drug Xanax and the heartburn medication Prilosec on a daily basis, a source close to the Jackson family told the British paper The Sun. The source said the 5-foot-10 Jackson weighed just 125 pounds when he died at age 50 and was eating just one meal a day. The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office said yesterday an autopsy on Jackson was so far inconclusive, and determining the cause of death would require as many as six more weeks. But spokesman Craig Harvey said: "There was no indication of any external trauma or any indication of foul play." Other sources said the pop icon suffered a heart attack. According to Radar Online, on June 16 Jackson complained to a friend of chest pains. The Web site also said a team of doctors had been treating him for weeks. Don't get me wrong, I'm definitely not saying there weren't a plethora of perscriptions likely involved in some fashion in his passing...but it
would have been nice for the 24 hour news cycle to let the body get cold before starting the speculation and the smarmy stuff. That's all I'm saying.
It's distasteful as hell - they did the same thing to Heath Ledger, and it turned my stomach.
The bad stuff is likely to come down soon enough once the toxicology reports are done, they could have afforded him 24 hours before jump starting the smear campaign. The MJ I admired died a long time ago...amazingly talented? You bet. Amazingly troubled? Most definitely. He never had a childhood, which is why I think he so desperately clung to that Peter Pan aspect of his life...and yet, living in that bubble is probably what cost him everything ultimately, as he had no adult coping mechanisms or parameters. Nor clearly any idea how to function normally in an adult world...and that was never more shockingly on display than when he was facing molestation charges. I honestly believe he never understood what he was saying/doing was seen as wrong as an adult, because he never thought of himself as an adult. Ultimately it will be interesting to see how his children are going to cope.

Putting Britany Spears on stage with Jackson only emphasizes Spears' mediocrity. She did have nice legs back then though.

There will be a special tribute to Michael Jackson next Monday (June 29th) evening at 8:00 by the American Idol top thirteen finalists.
ETA I think it's just the Encore from their MJ week, when Adam sang "Black and White".

CNN's coverage of the aftermath borders on self-parody. (I made the mistake of tuning in for a few minutes last night.) They've got nothing to report so they resorted to describing the SUV's with dark windows that may or may not have contained his relatives. And "interviewing" an 8 year old alleged fan about her favorite MJ songs. Idiotic. |

I believe he molested some boys. Take any other grown man and put him in the stories about MJ with boys and everyone would KNOW he was a child molester. Did he have "evil intent"? Probably not, because he was so screwed up himself.I agree. I believe that he was a pedophile who used his fame to prey on children. After paying 23 million to settle an alleged case of child sexual abuse, that he claimed was a false allegation based on the greed of the child's family, a non-pedophile would have stayed as far away as possible from any situation that could possible be misconstrued. What does Jackson do? Well, by his own admission he sleeps with young boys. That's what pedophiles do. They can't control themselves. I suspect that the pedophilia is, at least in part, the reason for so much of his fairly obvious self-loathing. He was sick and derranged. That's what pedophiles are, sick and derranged people who can't control their sexual attraction to children. Most pedophile don't have an evil intent. They think they're showing love to children. No doubt that Jackson's life was tragic but I think he's also responsible for causing tragedy in the lives of the children he abused. In the circumstances, I think alot of this media "mourning" is way over the top. IMO, the fact that he was perhaps a musical genius, (his music wasn't to my taste but I can see why some admired it), isn't enough to outshine his sickness Very sad on all counts. |

Regardless that at this particular time it's Michael Jackson's death, media death coverage is always over the top; overdone regardless of who the celeb might be & mostly out of all proportion to what the individual's accomplishments might have been. (Anna Nicole Smith comes to mind as a prime example.) The more potential sleaze involved the better the infotainment value for hours on end. |

Exactly - the media loves outrage, sleaze or crime-infused stories. Look at the case of Caylee Anthony, or now the Gosselins. Their stories are everywhere, on
TV and all the rags. And what's with the American Idol show and the outrage about one person not winning? Everything needs to be an outrage, that's how
they sell their papers or advertising.
