On a more somber note...I feel badly for his children. It had to have been a surreal existence, but at least no one knew who they were. Now, they have lost the only parent they have ever known and the world will know who they are. Very sad. With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine...

That seems worth my tears. I'll also shed a few for MJ's children being put through this public farce instead of a private funeral. People tear up for various reasons, who is to judge when it is appropriate or not? I guess my tears are worthless because I've been known to sniffle during complete works of fiction, whatev! ITA about the Elvis point - seems like for the time his funeral was a pretty big deal. Clearly this is neither not an MJ board, but I didn't realize that those who are either fans nor choose to think he was of ill repute are erring in their opinions. If any other MJ fan has the misfortune of coming across this thread, do yourself a favor and don't bother posting. It ain't worth it (and yes I can't take my own medicine!). My opinion on this is no less valid than yours, so quit trying to diminish it. His children are already destroyed and will never have their father back, and now because of this public circus they will never again know a moment's peace outside their own homes. For that I am saddened. I am also saddened that there are events and people who have been shunted into the background over the last two weeks as insignificant and unimportant because of this craziness. Did anyone here even notice that North Korea announced they had added to their stockpile of nuclear weapons on the weekend? Or that 7 more soldiers were killed in Afghanistan Monday? All some of us were saying is have a little bloody perspective. Shed a tear for his passing and mourn the wasted talent gone too soon, but be realistic about it in comparison with the real world. The real world that barely blinks an eye when another total stranger to any of us (as MJ was) passes away too soon for no good reason. I'll save my tears for my personal heroes, thanks very much. Posts: 4380 (Jul 7, 2009 4:37 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	it wasn't ott, hando. i cried throughout, and i can't remember the last time i did that for anyone passing. michael only decided to do this last concert so his kids could see him perform. it was mentioned by someone, either one of the cnn anchors or one of the family (i've heard soo much over the last 12 days), that this funeral will show his kids how much he is loved. i think everything that has happened over the last 12 days will show them that. there's a minority that feel exactly the way that julls does. this dude gave them voice. he probably ended his political career, too. there's already a website to raise money for a candidate to run against him in the next election. the bill o'reilly show also aired an interesting segment that shows two viewpoints from two black men. I also feel like all the opinions that are remotely pro MJ are being lumped together. Not everyone who feels anything about MJ's death is curled up in the fetal position or losing sight of the world at large. Just because I get that MJ had a global impact doesn't mean I've stopped following world events, sheesh. Perspective is subjective, you say shed a tear and get over it, and I guess I feel like those who want to shed a few tears or are having more than a moment aren't automatically lacking in reality. You have every right to shed your tears how you want, but I don't get the judging vibes on how others do it. If I have misread the tone of your thread and there was no judging, then I am sorry for that.

I'm glad that the memorial service has come and gone...it took a long time compared to other deaths and hopefully it will provide some closure for his family first and his fans second. The thing I find thought provoking is that before his death, I didn't notice this level of adoration and worship.. I mean clearly he had fans all over the world and he was working on a come back, but it seems like it took his death to make everyone (including the media) raise him up to this idol state. I would think that would make his family members left behind sort of sad that it took his death to bring this about and he's not here to receive it. I'm also very surprised that his daughter wanted to take the mike in front of that huge audience. It was heartbreaking and I hope she has someone to lean on during this ordeal...which is far from over for her and her little brothers, I'm afraid. I saw where the memorial is costing the city of LA a ton of money and the mayor is asking for donations. I can't decide if I find that tacky or practical! It's probably more necessary than anything nosy - the state of California is bankrupt, losing more money everyday, and has a huge unemployment level. City officials have been asking AEG to assist in paying for the security detail needed for this since they announced, to no avail. So now the taxpayers are on the hook for at least a million for this, in a time when such waste of public dollars is obscene. If I lived in CA, I'd be pretty pissed off about this coming out of my pocket while the promoter was going to reap millions. Everyone cries in different ways, for different reasons. I think nothing less of those who are not shedding tears. I don't recall saying anything that belittled or faulted a person for tearing up or not tearing up. If I incorrectly took your words SJ, then again, my fault. I was just saying what I thought you meant in other words (which ends up being word in mouth syndrome if what I thought you meant was wrong ). I realize I may be reading stuff more sensitively because where I'm at, one is villified for even saying one likes the music, let alone anything else. If I carried that over here, m'bad. I certainly don't need to prove to anyone here that I get there is a real world, so I'll try to curb the defensive instinct. I don't think the city should be paying, either. CA has enough economic woe as is.

Posts: 4383 (Jul 7, 2009 5:56 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	nosy, mj hasn't gotten a lot of adoration for a long time, but in the 80's and 90's every concert sold out, all his hits were major sellers, the world of music revered him. but it hasn't happened in awhile so i'm not surprised you didn't notice. the funeral is costing la, but la also runs on tourism, and the people that descended on the city certainly paid into the tourist coffers. cnn said the airlines noted that in the last week airline flights to la went up noticeably. i think his celebrity forced the city's hand. they couldn't even allow a private service with all the people determined to be close. if the city hadn't stepped in, there might have been incidents. plus, that's why we pay city taxes...to take care of unforseen things like this. i bet they did get donations, too. i don't quite understand how julls thinks the promoters are gonna get millions. from where?
