Question about SJP and Matthew Broderick |
Lead | |
|
I just saw that they had released photos of them, their son, and their new twin daughters. I was wondering, why were the twins were done by a surrogate but
she gave birth to their son. Was there something that happened, something that changed, etc. this time that she didnt' give birth to the twins herself
and had a surrogate? I was thinking I might have missed something inbetween then and now. The twins and their son James are soooooo cute.

"Because we don't know when we will die, we get to think of life as an inexhaustible well. Yet everything happens a certain number of times, and a very small number, really. How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, some afternoon that's so deeply a part of your being that you can't even conceive of your life without it? Perhaps four or five time more. Perhaps not even that. How many times will you watch the full moon rise? Perhaps twenty. And yet it all seems limitless." Sheltering Sky by Paul Bowles ![]() |

I've read that she miscarried several times when trying to get pregnant again.

Also, CR, Sarah is mid-40 something and that's not a perfect time to be pregnant...

Age 26 is peak fertility, so 44 is pretty late in the grand scheme.
Very cute photo of them together. |

Wow... when those girls are 16, their parents will be 60 and 63, more the age of grandparents. I'm just sayin'.

Salma Hayek is 40 and just had a baby.
Susan Sarandon had twins at 46. Another actress had a child in her late 40's. I wouldn't want to be in my 60's having children just graduating, but many actors have kids that will be teens and they will be in their 70's. So...it's all relative, I guess. Dennis Quaid is 52 or 53 and has newborns. His wife is younger, but still. He will be quite a bit older at their graduation for sure. LOL! Meg Ryan is going to be 48 and has a 3 year old?? 15 years she will be 63. |

I'm thinking being older is not always a bad thing when you have kids. And people of all walks of life are having children later in life, not just celebs.
It's not a big deal anymore imo.

Delltou wrote: Then they're all in the same boat... they'll be going to school functions, and the other children with younger parents will think they're all grandparents. Seriously, some of those parents may not live to see their children graduate or get married, not to mention enjoy their grandchildren. I find that kind of sad. But hey, it's their lives. I'm just glad that we had our kids when we (late hubby and I) were young enough to still remember what it was like to be a kid. |

8best, A LOT of people have children in their mid 30s to early 40s. Believe me, I'm 40 myself and the mom of a kindergartner and I see moms and dads with
their kindergartners or babies around the neighbourhood a lot and they're of every age from 20s to 40s. It's so common that most people who have kids
now don't even think of it. I get what you're saying about being an older parent, but like Bruni says: sometimes you're just not ready to have kids
in your 20s. Whether because you haven't met the right person or you're busy doing other things. I know I don't regret for a moment that I waited
until mid 30s to have kids. And as for remembering being a kid: I have a really good memory in spite of my advanced age so that is certainly NOT a problem.

I'm speaking more about people like Dennis Quaid (in his 50s), and Nancy Grace who had her twins at 48. I'm thinking of their children, who could lose
their parents at an earlier age than normal (especially David Letterman). They're the ones it's going to be rough on, when they don't have a
father to walk them down the aisle, etc.
My own son didn't become a father until he was in his 30s. I realize that people are having children at a later age because of college, establishing a career, and settling on a partner. I'm not saying that anybody on this board shouldn't have had their kids when they did. I just wish people would think what their child may go through before waiting until 50 or older to have them. If I hadn't had my kids until I was in my 40s, I couldn't have gotten down on the floor and wrestled with them, or played tag in the yard, and all that fun stuff, because my arthritis was too bad by then. So I'm glad my kids knew me when I could still turn cartwheels in the yard, and people said I looked too young to have children. |

I think Tony Randall took the prize for being the oldest baby daddy around. David Letterman probably still has a few good years left and something tells me
he's out in the yard tossing the ball with his son now. I think health is more important than the number of one's age. I know 50 year olds who run,
play tennis and are in the best shape of their lives...and then I know a 30 year old who is very overweight and can't keep up with her little boys....so
it's all relative. The most important thing IMO is being as involved as you can with your children while you're alive (and if you're an older
parent...living as healthy a lifestyle as you can....not smoking, exercising, eating right, etc).
A day without laughter is a day wasted. ~

Parents who had their kids at more 'normal' times die 'early' as well. How many of you guys know folks who had heart attacks, cancer,
accidents, etc? And while we are in the midst of celebs dying earlier due to illness & problems, plenty of celebs live to ripe old ages.
ITA w/ Nosy - "health is more important than one's age" - not to mention a lot of celebs have pretty decent access to health care.
