what you don't know is that when sidney poitier was wowing all the white people, black people weren't even allowed into the theaters. and this was in the north, mind you. my aunt had a job in a theater in pittsburgh identifying the blacks who tried to get in, cause white people often couldn't tell.
you may think you've hit on a great come back with sidney poitier, but he never had the acclaim of michael jackson. he broke down some barriers, yes, but at a time very few blacks could take advantage of them. he was indeed the exception. why do you think minorities were complaining about ethnicity on tv up until the 90's? sidney poitier didn't get anybody any jobs, but berry gordy, motown and michael jackson allowed blacks to take ownership of the music business, and they hold sway until this day. you haven't heard any complaints about blacks in music since the 50's, have you?
