Just saw it today and loved it. Spock was really cute.

It's supposedly only going to be on IMAX for 2 weeks, and I've yet to find it being shown on any of the IMAX screens near me.

Pen E's right, new Spock was the most charming one in the show. He's cute.

heat, I was also surprised at how uncharasmatic and uncommanding Nero was! And I missed Bana's beautiful hair!!
spoiler...... It was a blast how as Chris Pine (Kirk) steps onto the bridge to take command at the end, he had Shatner's lope & attitude down pat.harley....he sure did!!!! LOL at the "without overdoing it" comment...the original Kirk (Shatner) sometimes overdid it!!!! also, hubby and I had a good laugh when they were dropping Sulu, Kirk and that other guy down to the drilling machine to dismantle it. Hubs said, "well, that guy is a red shirt so we know he's going to die!" And sure enough!!!!

After the red shirt kicked, I told her about the old series. In fact, I was doing that the whole movie and was complaining about the lame Romulans. Gary told all his co-workers and Libby told her friends about me and had a laugh at my expense. AS USUAL!

How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, some afternoon that's so deeply a part of your being that you can't even conceive of your life without it? Thanks laurel. Maybe the fandango search I did didnt pull up that theatre because it's probably 45 miles away from me. Still ....
I didn't know about the red shirt thing, but I do know that the "other guy" that gets beamed down, you know, the one whose name you don't know, never, ever makes it back. I told my son that he wasn't going to make it. |

Jules, that's what Jason said too. He said, "Red shirt and we don't know him. He's dead."
Sure, there were some plot holes. I mean, wtf is red matter and why would you have a giant ball of it when one drop causes a black hole?? But damn, it was a good movie. I can't wait to see it again. And yes, Pine had the lope down perfectly! But I'm still agog over how awesome Karl Urban was as McCoy. My God, man! |

My family loved it too! We loved how they worked in classic lines - which brought a HUGE laugh from the audience each time.
What I found interesting in seeing it at an evening show at a Queens multiplex is that the audience was almost 1/3 African-American, whole families, which I haven't seen at any other sci fi movie, even with Billy Dee Williams and Samuel Jackson in various Star Wars. I've read interviews with folks who saw that Uhuru was really iconic in the African-American community. When I was a kid I just assumed she was African, because of her name and because the original TV show emphasized an international/inter-planetary crew. Here she was very much African-American. I didn't bother to see it in IMAX because I don't think any scenes were specifically filmed for that, unlike Dark Knight where over a half-hour was specifically filmed in that format. Neither does Terminator. |

I've finally beamed home from seeing it!! I liked it. A lot.
First, I gotta mentiion, why has nobody said anything about Leonard Nimoy?? He was the soul of the movie. His two scenes with Kirk, and then the last scene, especially with Spock, were soooo great. On to the new cast, which, along with everybody else, I just loved. I was just amazed that the "new" Spock was so exactly like the "old" Spock. There was no adjustment being made, it was almost exactly like Leonard Nimoy went thru a time warp and was young again. Chris Pike was just great as young Kirk, perfect casting. (About William Shatner, I would say he got hammier with each film but maybe that isn't fair, and certainly not fair to compare this film to TOS). The "new" McCoy was absolutely hilarious and had some of the best lines ("permission to speak freely...have you lost your damn mind")! And, of course, the homage to the old series, "I'm a doctor, not a physicist!" The "new" Uhura was just lovely and I liked the little love affair she and Spock had going. When she goes and comforts him after his mother is killed was very touching. I loved Scotty and his little pal and I was very glad to see the little guy get on board, after all: he was so cute!! Chekhov, running down the Enterprise's halls, muttering to himself in Russian...lol...Pike being tortured ala Kahn's nasty trick (another nod to the Enterprise's history). And then, of course, we had Spock's Vulcan hold on Kirk and the mind meld... You could just see the new, young crew beginning to work and meld with each other and the friendship between Kirk and Spock that was forged, as well as Kirk and McCoy. I think it made me appreciate the whole saga even more. I agree that the Romuleans were very cardboardy. I couldn't have cared less about them and I would never have recognized Eric Bana or Winnoa Ryder, for that matter. Anyway, I loved it! Can't wait to see it again on DVD! Your Signature ...
