While admitting to taking a day off work, and allowing my son to take a day off school, so that we could attend the 9:45am showing today, I must say that we were the least nerd-like folks in the theatre. And yes, there were at least 25 other people there. Let me provide an example. A man needed to pass in front of us to get to his seat, and as he did, he gave us the salute and bid us to live long and prosper. This was said without a hint of irony. I think he was truly wishing us well. But I digress. THE MOVIE IS GREAT! Oh wow, I am so not going to see most of the summer movies I was planning to see, because they will pale in comparison and I'll feel I wasted my $8. There's tons of humor throughout, as well as great action, suspense, and drama. Everybody is there, and by that I mean all the Enterprise crew, but it takes a while for them all to get on board the ship. That's all I'm going to say. Proper homage is paid to the original t.v. show, but there are a few new and different things as well. I'm not enough of a Trekkie to be bothered by it, and honestly, I can't imagine anybody else will be either. This is the best movie I've seen in the theatre since Return of the King.

It looks ok enough, and that's awesome (esp for the fans) that it wasn't a stinker, but I might just wait till its on dvd - I have too many movies to watch this summer, but not enough time. sigh

Did anybody see Leonard Nimoy on Letterman, last night, doing Top Ten Lines Never Said In A Star Trek Movie?? Posts: 9145 (May 8, 2009 10:33 PM) Seriousness is the only refuge of the shallow Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	One of my biggest thrills, as a Trekkie was getting on the set of the first Star Trek movie...my uncle worked at Paramount studios, the first scene of the movie, when the Klingons met V'ger was the last scene they film, so I saw a full sized mock up of the front part a Klingon Bird of Prey and met one of the Klingons, with their different look...I even saw the molds they used to make Spock's ears...and met the assistant director, who's a well known director now...

If you watch House Jennifer Morrison who is Cameron has a small role as does Winona Ryder. The awards for least recognizable, however go to 1. Eric Bana and 2. Karl Urban. Leonard Nimoy was great. Did not realize he was 78 years old. Looking forward to seeing him in the season finale of Fringe next week and possibly in the next season. There is a lot of humor in it, nice a movie of this magnitude doesn't take itself too seriously. Liked it far better than Wolverine ( despite the naked Hugh Jackman scenes.) because it actually had a plot and it was funny.

I didn't know Bana was in the movie, and I knew I knew who was under that make-up as Nero, but had to wait until the credits to find out who it was. I recognized Ryder's voice, but wasn't sure it was her either. Simon Pegg was pretty good as Scotty, too. And he said the line. "I'm givin' it all I've got, Captain~!" It's just a really fun movie, that also has drama, action, and a bit of suspense. I'm not a Trekkie or a Trekker (but am nerdy enough to know the difference). Very entertaining! I'm not a Trekkie nor do I want to be a poser, but I'm familiar enough to have laughed @ some of the inside jokes. I think it did justice to the series. Great casting, lovin Dr. McCoy. Can I just say - Tyler Perry - huh??? Not that he was bad, but I sat there going 'that guy looks like Tyler Perry, and it was! Chuckled over Winona as well. And Bana was very good, too. And Nimoy is just too adorable! Looking forward to the next one!!!

Whether your consider yourself a Trekker or just have an affection for the old cast & characters it's great. Loved it. Plenty of laughs through the whole thing. It was Fun to see each character make an appearance. Loved the "new" Kirk & Spock; no problem accepting either of them. Also, loved McCoy. Perfect. I saw it in IMAX. At the end, the whole audience applauded. And, as the guy sitting in front of me said at the end, "I can't wait til the next one!" Now that's entertainment!

The writers deserve a lot of credit for a good story, and the actors did a good job all across the board.

I stared and whispered to Jason, "That's Tyler Fuckin Perry! What's he doing in this???" I did not recognize Winona Ryder at all. Had no clue it was her until the credits rolled. Yep, there's a Sulu! He's played by John Cho, the guy who played Harold in the Harold and Kumar movies, and he's terrific too. Cute, too
