We've managed to get our greasy mitts on the trailer for Ridley Scott's next film, Body of Lies, which once again stars his muse Russell Crowe, and this time also one Leonardo DiCaprio.

Based on Washington Post columnist David Ignatius' 2007 novel about a CIA operative, Roger Ferris (Leonardo DiCaprio), who uncovers a lead on a major terrorist leader suspected to be operating out of Jordan. When Ferris devises a plan to infiltrate his network, he must first win the backing of cunning CIA veteran Ed Hoffman (Russell Crowe) and the collegial, but perhaps suspect, head of Jordanian intelligence. Although ostensibly his allies, Ferris questions how far he can really trust these men without putting his entire operation - and his life - on the line.

The film is released on October 10.

After years of starring in acclaimed TV dramas and locally produced films, Hollywood is finally, finally taking an interest in Vince Colosimo. And what an interest.

The former Secret Life of Us star will star alongside Hollywood heavyweights Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe in Ridley Scott's latest film Body of Lies. Colosimo headed to Morocco on Sunday to join the production, about a former journalist injured in the Iraq war, who is hired by the CIA to track down an al-Qaeda leader in Jordan.

The role is a huge step for Colosimo, who has filmed guest roles on US drama series The Practice and Without a Trace. Having won a best supporting AFI award for Lantana, Colosimo also impressed in Chopper and turns up in, on average, about every one in two Australian films.

He's done the right thing by hitching his wagon to Scott. It wasn't that long ago when a certain Russell Crowe was put in an ancient skirt by Scott, and he ended up with an Oscar for Gladiator. Similarly, Scott took Bana from Chopper praise to the international waters of Black Hawk Down. Next stop: steady Hollywood career for Bana, as Crowe was already enjoying.

Volatile tightrope: Russell Crowe and Leonardo DiCaprio fight the bad guys in the highly acclaimed Body of Lies.

Want to make a movie about the US war on terror that critics and audiences will respond to in equal measure? Take a leaf out of Ridley Scott's playbook.

Reuniting with Russell Crowe for the fourth time (following Gladiator, One Good Year and American Gangster), Ridley Scott also secured Leonardo DiCaprio as the stars of Body Of Lies.

These A-list names, plus Oscar-winning screenwriter William Monahan (The Departed), put forward a better case for engaging cinema crowds than many other 9/11-themed American films.

Still, George Clooney's Syriana and Nicolas Cage's World Trade Center didn't exactly plunder the box office.

Where Body Of Lies (based on Washington Post columnist David Ignatius' recent novel) stands a better chance of pulling in punters is Scott's shrewd move of delivering a high-class, kinetic action thriller.

The bonus is that its controversial contemporary political content is not dumbed down for lowest common denominators.

Where last year's brain-dead The Kingdom treated similar serious matters with offensive jingoism, Body Of Lies marries thrills with chilling real-world big issues. This is exactly the blend of brains and brawn missing from Scott's own Black Hawk Down, and DiCaprio's disappointing Blood Diamond.

DiCaprio is Roger Ferris, a young but gifted CIA agent whose work "on the ground" in the Middle East is jeopardised by the impatient tactics back at home of his results-drive

Sharing little screen time in person, the phone calls between hands-on Ferris and assured Hoffman - who can conduct vital operations while tucking his kids into bed, or attending their soccer games - reveal the depth and black humour of their critical relationship.

As Scott thrusts us into complicated guerrilla operations with global implications, DiCaprio makes for a watchable intelligent "hero", while pudgy Crowe lends consummate gravitas to his pivotal puppeteer.

Hoffman admits in an opening monologue that the US is not defeating its "primitive" enemies, who could tear down American society more easily than most like to think.

Without singling out particular nations or real-world opponents, Body Of Lies largely follows Ferris in Jordan, hunting down an Islamic terrorist leader (Vince Colosimo does well as a weak CIA operative).

Ferris requires the cooperation of smooth, loyal Jordanian official Hani (British actor Mark Strong, in a magnetic turn), and the volatile tightrope of international counter terrorism - built on distrust, deception, torture and coldblooded collateral damage - becomes an exciting but frightening artwork imitating life.

Pulsating and considered, Body Of Lies potently hinges on the concept of reaping what you sow, yet pulls up short of preaching (well, for the most part).

Body Of Lies makes a ballsy statement about the West's destructive and possibly illegal methods used to stop terrorists.

The blurriness between good and bad is almost overwhelming. This is one film that will numb you for the right reasons.
